TollTracker is now live in Spain

Spain goes live today. We now watch 1,930 speed cameras, 449 red-light cameras and 142 average-speed sections across the Spanish network — the largest block of coverage we have ever added in one go.

Spain publishes its radar list. That is not the same as remembering it.

Spain is unusually open about enforcement. The locations are a matter of public record, updated and republished, and anyone who wants the list can have it. The information has never been the problem. Recalling which kilometre of which road carries a section radar, in the third hour of a drive, is the problem.

The radar de tramo, and where it gets put

Spain leans on section control harder than almost anywhere in Europe, and places it exactly where the road argues for speed: long descents, tunnels, and the wide inter-urban stretches where the limit starts to feel arbitrary. Those are precisely the places where you are least likely to be watching the speedometer and most likely to have drifted.

A published list only helps if it reaches you at the right moment. That is the whole job — the right warning, on the right kilometre, while you can still do something about it.

Three warnings, not one

A fixed radar needs a single alert, early enough to be useful. A section needs three, because the risk runs its whole length:

At the entry — you are going in, and here is the average you are measured against.
Inside — your running average has drifted over, while there is still road left to correct it.
At the exit — you are clear of it.
