Frequently asked questions

Everything about using TollTracker, managing your alerts, and handling your subscription — organized by topic so you can find your answer fast.

Getting started

What does TollTracker actually do?

TollTracker is a road-safety companion app. While you drive, it uses your location to warn you about speed cameras, red-light cameras, average-speed (section) enforcement zones, police checkpoints, and hazards like accidents, stalled vehicles, animals, and road closures. It's built for drivers across Europe, with support for 16 languages.

Do I need to create an account to use the app?

No. TollTracker works right away with an anonymous session — no sign-up required. Creating an account is optional and mainly useful if you want your subscription and settings to follow you across devices.

What permissions does TollTracker require?

Location access While Using the App is required so the app can detect nearby cameras, zones, and hazards and alert you in time. Notification permission lets alerts reach you even when the app isn't in the foreground.

Does TollTracker work without an internet connection?

The app needs a data connection to fetch nearby camera, zone, and hazard information and to keep it current. If your connection drops mid-drive, alerts may pause until it's restored. Offline mode is coming soon.

What's the difference between TollTracker free and TollTracker Premium?

Free Mode lets you view the live map of cameras, zones, and hazards, but it does not offer smart alerts for them while driving. TollTracker Premium offers wider support for different dangers and hazards, alerts in real time, as well as features such as minimizing the app and customization.

Which languages does TollTracker support?

Bulgarian, Czech, German, Greek, English, Spanish, French, Croatian, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, and Turkish. The app follows your device language automatically, or you can set one manually in Settings.

Does TollTracker support Live Activities or CarPlay?

On iOS, active alerts can appear as a Live Activity on your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island, with CarPlay display support from iOS 26 onward. On Android, an equivalent floating overlay window can show alerts on top of other apps.

Live Activities also need to be turned on inside the app itself: go to Settings → Alerts → Live Activity and enable the toggle, in addition to allowing Live Activities for TollTracker in your iPhone's system settings.

Alerts & danger zones

What types of alerts does TollTracker give?

Fixed speed cameras, red-light cameras, combined cameras (which can enforce speed, red lights, phone use, or lane violations at once), average-speed (section control) zones, restricted zones that you can get fined for entering without permission, mobile police checkpoints, and hazards such as accidents, stopped vehicles, animals, debris, and road closures.

What is an "average speed" or "section control" zone?

It's a stretch of road where your average speed between two fixed points is measured and compared to the limit, rather than your speed at a single spot. TollTracker tracks your progress through these zones and warns you if your pace is on track to exceed the limit.

Can I set how early I get warned before a camera or zone?

Yes. In Settings → Alerts, you can adjust the warning distance and the speed-exceedance tolerance that triggers a warning, so alerts arrive with the lead time that suits your driving.

Can I turn off specific alert types, like hazard reports?

Yes. Each alert category — speed cameras, red-light cameras, combined cameras, checkpoints, and hazards — can be toggled independently in the alert category settings.

How do alerts sound, and can I change that?

You can choose between a sound-effect-plus-voice alert, voice-only, or muted alerts entirely, and set a volume override so alerts aren't drowned out by music or navigation apps.

Will I still get alerts if I lock my phone or switch apps?

Yes, as long as notifications and location access are granted. You can choose in Settings whether push notifications should only fire while TollTracker is in the foreground or also in the background.

How do I report a hazard, like an accident or animal on the road?

Tap a hazard's map marker for details, or use the in-app report option to flag a new hazard, a closed road, or an issue with an existing entry — for example, if it's no longer there.

I noticed a missing camera or hazard, how can I report it?

Press and hold on the map at the exact spot where the camera or hazard is located. This opens the report wizard:

  1. Choose the category — for example speed camera, red-light camera, police checkpoint, restricted zone, or hazard.
  2. Pick the specific type within that category (e.g. mobile vs. fixed camera, or the kind of hazard).
  3. Confirm the pin sits exactly on the location — drag it to adjust if needed.
  4. Submit the report.

Once submitted, it appears on the map for other drivers, and becomes more reliable over time as other drivers confirm it or flag any issues with it.

I noticed wrong data on a certain speed camera or hazard — how do I fix it?

Tap the marker on the map to open its detail popup, then tap Report a Problem. Select the reason that fits — for example, it's no longer there, it's in the wrong location, or its details (type, speed limit, direction) are incorrect — and submit.

Your report is used to correct or remove the entry, keeping the map accurate for every driver who passes that spot.

Why does an alert seem outdated or already gone?

Community-reported hazards (accidents, checkpoints, closures) can become outdated as situations clear. Tap the marker to see when it was last updated, and use the report option to flag it if it no longer applies.

Do speed limits shown adjust for my type of vehicle?

Yes — set your vehicle type once (car, motorcycle, truck, or bus) and TollTracker matches the limits and rules it shows you to the ones that actually apply to that vehicle class.

Does TollTracker warn me about police checkpoints?

Yes, community-reported mobile police enforcement and checkpoints appear as their own alert category, alongside fixed and mobile speed cameras.

What's a "combined" camera?

A single camera unit capable of enforcing more than one rule — for example speed, red lights, phone use while driving, or lane violations at the same location. TollTracker flags these so you know more than one rule is being enforced there.

Can I see nearby cameras and hazards without alerts turned on?

Yes — the live map itself is available in Free Mode. Spoken and visual proximity alerts as you approach a camera or hazard require an active subscription.

Subscription & billing

Is TollTracker free?

In the free version you can view the live map of cameras, zones and hazards, at no cost. Real-time proximity alerts, the feature most drivers rely on, are part of the paid subscription.

Can I use the app on more than 1 device?

Yes, but not simultaneously. TollTracker supports up to 1 active device at a time — if you would like to use it on multiple devices at the same time, you will need to have multiple subscriptions.

What subscription plans are available?

TollTracker offers recurring subscription plans. Exact pricing and terms are shown on the paywall screen in the app and may vary by store and region.

Is there a free trial?

Yes, a free trial is offered on eligible plans. The app clearly shows when you're in a trial period, and you won't be charged until it ends unless you cancel first.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are billed through Apple or Google, so cancellation happens there, not in the TollTracker app itself:

  • iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → TollTracker → Cancel Subscription.
  • Android: Play Store → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → TollTracker → Cancel.

I cancelled — why do I still have access?

Cancelling stops future renewals but doesn't revoke time you've already paid for. You'll keep premium access until the end of the current billing period.

Do I need an account to subscribe?

No — you can subscribe anonymously, tied to your device. However, the app will prompt you to create an account afterward so your subscription can follow you if you switch phones or reinstall.

What happens to my subscription if I switch phones?

If you subscribed anonymously and never created an account, your subscription is tied to that device/store login and won't automatically transfer. Creating an account and signing in before you switch devices is the reliable way to keep your subscription active on the new one.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple or Google, since they process the payment — TollTracker cannot issue refunds directly. Request one through the App Store's "Report a Problem" page or Google Play's order history.

Why was I charged after my free trial?

Trials convert automatically into a paid subscription at the end of the trial period unless you cancel before it ends. Check your renewal date in the app's subscription screen or your store account.

Account & sign-in

How do I sign in to TollTracker?

Go to Settings → Account and choose Google, Apple, or email/password. You can also just keep using the app anonymously without signing in at all.

What happens to my anonymous data when I sign in?

Signing in "links" your existing anonymous session to your chosen account rather than replacing it — your current subscription and settings carry over rather than being lost.

Can I use more than one sign-in method on the same account?

Yes, you can link multiple sign-in methods (for example, both Google and email/password) to the same account from Settings → Account → Sign-in methods.

Will my settings and subscription sync across my devices?

Yes, once you're signed in to an account (rather than using an anonymous session), your subscription and app settings sync across any device where you sign in with the same account.

I signed in but my display name isn't showing correctly. Why?

When linking an existing anonymous session to a new sign-in method, your display name isn't always copied over automatically. You can set or edit it manually from your profile in Settings.

How do I sign out?

Go to Settings → Account → Sign Out. Signing out doesn't cancel your subscription — it stays tied to your account and store login.

How do I delete my account and data?

Account deletion isn't yet self-service in the app. Email [email protected] from the address linked to your account and we'll process the deletion. If you have an active subscription, cancel it separately through Apple or Google first — deleting your account doesn't automatically stop billing.

I lost access to the email or Google account I signed in with. What now?

Contact [email protected] with as much detail as you can about your account (subscription receipt, other linked sign-in methods, approximate sign-up date) so we can help verify and restore access.

Privacy & data

What does TollTracker do with my location data?

Your location is used to detect nearby cameras, enforcement zones, and hazards so the app can alert you in time. It is not sold, and any use for analytics or advertising is governed by the consent choices you make in the app.

Yes, through your device's privacy settings for the app (for example, iOS Settings → TollTracker → Tracking, or Android's app permissions and ads settings).

How do I request access to, correction of, or deletion of my personal data?

Email [email protected]. Under GDPR you can request access to, correction of, export of, or deletion of your data, and you can withdraw previously given consent at any time.

Does TollTracker share my data with third parties?

TollTracker uses third-party analytics and crash-reporting tools, and — where you've consented — ad measurement services, to help operate and improve the app. Full details are in the in-app Privacy Notice.

Who publishes TollTracker?

TollTracker is published by Tracker Tech Ltd. For any privacy, billing, or support question, reach the team at [email protected].

Troubleshooting

I'm not getting alerts even though I'm subscribed. What should I check?

First, confirm location and notification permissions are granted to TollTracker in your device settings. Then check Settings → Alerts to make sure the relevant categories aren't toggled off, and that your alert sound isn't set to muted.

Live points or nearby dangers take a few seconds to appear on the map. Is that normal?

Yes — the app is waiting for a precise GPS fix from your device, which can take a few seconds after opening, especially indoors or right after your phone's location has been off. Once your GPS lock is warm, nearby markers should populate promptly.

The app can't find or use my location at all.

Check that location permission for TollTracker is set to "While Using the App" or "Always" (not "Never" or "Ask Every Time") in your device's system settings, and that your phone's location services are turned on generally.

Why do alerts sound quiet or get cut off by my music or navigation app?

Check the alert volume override in Settings → Alerts → Sound. TollTracker briefly ducks other audio to play a voice alert.

The floating overlay window on Android isn't showing.

This feature needs the "Display over other apps" system permission. Enable it via your phone's Settings → Apps → TollTracker → Display over other apps (wording varies by manufacturer).

My Live Activity or CarPlay display isn't showing on iOS.

Live Activities need to be enabled for TollTracker under iOS Settings → Face ID & Passcode (or Settings → TollTracker → Live Activities), and turned on inside the app itself under Settings → Alerts → Live Activity. CarPlay display requires iOS 26 or later.

I restored my phone from backup or reinstalled the app and lost my subscription.

When you see the paywall, tap Restore. If you had signed in to an account before, sign in again first — that reattaches your subscription without needing a repurchase.

None of this solved my issue — how do I contact support?

Email [email protected] with your device model, OS version, app version, and a short description of the issue — or use the Report a Problem option in the app's Settings, which sends your issue straight to our support team. Screenshots help us diagnose faster.
