Romania has moved to automated fining through e-Sigur, which the Romanian Police describe as operational nationwide since 1 January 2025. Most speed checks are still police radar, in patrol cars or on tripods, and not every roadside camera is linked to the system.
e-Sigur links police, CNAIR and local-authority cameras into one national system that can issue fines by number plate. The cameras CNAIR has put up on the DN1 and other national roads only measure and display your speed: they are not connected to e-Sigur and issue no fines. CNAIR has announced a next stage with connected fixed radars.
