Portugal's expanding speed camera network.
Portugal's ANSR (National Road Safety Authority) manages a growing network of speed cameras and average-speed enforcement sections, particularly on the A1 (Lisbon–Porto) and Algarve routes.
Portugal uses the SINCRO average-speed enforcement system on key inter-urban routes. The A1 motorway, the busiest in the country, has extensive camera coverage with both point and section enforcement.
Via Verde tags work on every tolled motorway, but a tag is not compulsory: classic plazas take cash or card, and gantry-only roads accept other payment methods. The A22 Algarve, A23, A24 and A13 have been toll-free since 1 January 2025.
A22 Algarve motorway has dense enforcement during peak summer tourism season.
Lisbon's 25 de Abril and Vasco da Gama bridges are tolled. EASYToll and Toll Card don't work there: use a Via Verde tag or pay at the plaza.
