Trajectcontrole

The Netherlands introduced Trajectcontrole in 2003, the first permanent section speed enforcement in the world. The system uses licence plate recognition over sections of 5–20 km. It covers the A2, A4, A10, A12, A16 and many more motorways.

Key Rules

  • Motorway: 100 km/h (most routes), some 120–130 km/h at night
  • Maximum towing speed: 90 km/h with trailer
  • No road tolls for passenger cars on Dutch motorways
  • Cyclists have legal priority; drive accordingly

Most Dutch motorways are limited to 100 km/h during the day to reduce nitrogen emissions.
