The Netherlands' world-class average-speed enforcement.
The Netherlands pioneered average-speed (section) enforcement in Europe with Trajectcontrole, deployed across motorways since 2003. Dutch roads have some of the highest camera-per-kilometre density in the world.
The Netherlands introduced Trajectcontrole in 2003, the first permanent section speed enforcement in the world. The system uses licence plate recognition over sections of 5–20 km. It covers the A2, A4, A10, A12, A16 and many more motorways.
Most Dutch motorways are limited to 100 km/h during the day to reduce nitrogen emissions.
Milieuzone restrictions in Amsterdam, Utrecht and other cities. Camera-enforced per plate.
Extensive bike lane camera monitoring in urban areas. Strict liability applies to drivers.
