The Netherlands times you between gates with trajectcontrole on the A2, A4, A10, A12, A13 and more, backed by fixed cameras (flitspalen), red-light cameras and focus cameras that spot phones. Most motorways are 100 km/h from 06:00 to 19:00, and fines start high: 10 km/h over costs €84–€95.
Section controls on the A2, A4, A10, A12, A13, A20 and other roads measure your average speed between gates, 24 hours a day and in every lane. New sections on the A7 and A12 went live in 2026. The fine is for your worst section, and it goes to the registered keeper by post.
10 km/h over costs €84 on the motorway and €95 in town; 20 over costs €229–€255, plus €9 admin costs. Fines go to the registered keeper, and unpaid ones rise by 50%, then 100%.
Cameras read every plate in the A24 Blankenburg tunnel near Rotterdam, foreign ones too. Pay €1.57 at e-tol.nl within 3 days; unpaid, a reminder adds €9, then a €35 fine.
Amsterdam, Utrecht and Arnhem let diesel cars in only from emission class 5, The Hague from class 4. Cameras check every plate, foreign ones included: €130. Petrol and electric cars can always enter.
