Luxembourg's automated radars and section controls.
Luxembourg's police run an automated network of fixed radars, section-control radars (radar-tronçon), mobile radars and red-light cameras. Motorways are 130 km/h, but only when dry: in rain or on a wet road the limit drops to 110, sign or no sign.
Radar-tronçon times you over whole stretches of road: on the A7 north of the capital, on the A13, and on the N11 and N15. Hold the limit for the full stretch. The police publish a map of the fixed radars and announce some checks each day.
On weekday mornings, gantries cut the A6 and A1 to 90 km/h from the Belgian border at Sterpenich to the Kirchberg interchange. Not at weekends, on public holidays or in school holidays.
Holding or using a phone or any device with a screen while driving costs €250 and 4 points. Navigation is fine only on the car's own screen or on a device fixed in a proper holder.
Snow, slush, black ice or frost make winter or all-weather tyres compulsory on all four wheels, foreign cars included. Caught without: €74.
