Croatian police check speed with fixed cameras and mobile units. The A1 (Zagreb–Split–Ploče) carries more summer traffic than any other Croatian motorway, and its busiest point is Lučko, at the Zagreb end.

  • Warning triangle, reflective vest and first-aid kit mandatory
  • Winter equipment mandatory 15 Nov–15 Apr on marked winter roads, and anywhere in snow or ice
  • ENC tag gives non-stop lanes at toll plazas and a discount on tolls

Police step up speed checks every summer on all routes from the interior to the coast, as traffic peaks in July and August.

⛰️MOUNTAIN SECTIONS

The A6 through Gorski kotar is a marked winter road: winter tyres, or summer tyres with 4 mm tread plus chains, from 15 Nov to 15 Apr.

💳ENC TOLLS

Pay by distance at the toll booths, or use an ENC tag for non-stop lanes and a discount. Free-flow tolling (Crolibertas) is due in 2027.
