Portoferraio ZTL

The Portoferraio ZTL is active from 15 June to 15 September.

The historic center is closed from 19:30 to 7:00 in the morning, while Calata Mazzini is reserved for pedestrians from 19:30 to 1:00 at night.

During the summer season, under regulation by specific ordinance, access to the Portoferraio ZTL for all residents of the Portoferraio ZTL, until 01:00, is permitted via Porta a Terra, given the complete closure of Calata Mazzini to traffic.

Access to the areas of the Portoferraio ZTL of particular urban value listed below is reserved solely for residents of the Portoferraio ZTL:

• from 07:55 to 08:30
• from 12:55 to 13:30
• from 18:20 to 18:40

• Calata Mazzini
• Porta a Terra
• Piazza della Repubblica

Within the Limited Traffic Zone, all vehicles are prohibited unless expressly authorized, and therefore motorcycles and mopeds may not enter unless expressly authorized.

Bicycles, electric cars and bicycles, animal-drawn vehicles, and any other non-motorized means may circulate freely in the Portoferraio ZTL.

Transit and parking in the limited traffic zone is permitted for the following users:

a) residents registered (referring to natural persons, excluding legal entities) on the streets within the limited traffic zone, whose residence corresponds to their habitual abode, are granted up to a maximum of 2 transit and parking permits per household, for vehicles they own;

b) tenants of residential apartments who, for work reasons, spend most of the year there without having registered residence there (occupants), are entitled, following an official verification, to 1 annual transit and parking permit for vehicles they own: the permit may list the plates of multiple vehicles owned by the household;

c) owners of residential apartments and storage premises, not living within the limited traffic zone, whose apartment and/or storage premises are not used by third parties, are granted 1 transit and parking permit;

d) craftsmen with a vehicle used for transporting goods, who carry out professional emergency or home-visit services, duly documented, and other business owners who need to use a vehicle to carry out their activity (e.g. fishermen, farmers), are granted 1 access and parking permit.

e) owners, tenants, and holders under any title of garages, and those who have parking spaces available for vehicles within private areas, are granted an annual transit-only permit to access the parking area.

f) doctors whose practice is located in the Portoferraio ZTL are issued an annual transit and parking permit, which authorizes the holder to park, without causing obstruction, in the immediate vicinity of their medical practice.

i) social cooperatives, volunteer associations, and social promotion associations that include personal assistance in their statute, duly registered in the respective regional registers or rolls, that provide home care assistance and support services or accompaniment for persons resident or living within the Portoferraio ZTL, are granted a transit and parking permit. A maximum of 1 annual permit may be issued per cooperative association;

j) to authorize access for non-residents of the Portoferraio ZTL who hold professional practices located within the Portoferraio ZTL itself, to allow the loading and unloading of tools and work materials.

As an exception to the ban, transit in the Portoferraio ZTL is permitted for the following categories of vehicles, without displaying an identifying permit, subject to prior or subsequent entry of the relevant plates in the appropriate database:
